Hello, my name is Lenny DeMaria, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for Magisterial District Judge in Stroudsburg Borough, Court 43-2-01.
I was born and raised in Stroudsburg, where my parents married in 1950 and raised eight children. I am a proud 1987 graduate of Stroudsburg High School and have strong ties to this community. I have three children: two are graduates of Stroudsburg High School, and my youngest is currently a sophomore and a dedicated wrestling athlete. I live in South Stroudsburg with their mother, Lindsay, who is an amazingly compassionate, empathetic role model. She is employed locally as a Registered Nurse on the Cardiac Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono in East Stroudsburg. My daughter, her husband, and my three wonderful grandchildren are my next-door neighbors. They reside in the family home where I was born and raised, adding to the close-knit ties I have to this community.
My Mother Nancy (Margretta) DeMaria, one of nine siblings, was born on Third Street in Stroudsburg in 1930. Early on in my parents marriage she owned and operated a restaurant on lower Main Street in Stroudsburg. While there, my parents were raising their first four children in an apartment above the restaurant. My family moved to south Stroudsburg in the early 1960’s and continued to grow. My mother was an active contributor to Saint Matthews Church in East Stroudsburg and Saint Lukes Church in Stroudsburg. She cooked meals for church functions, donated her time and resources, and fostered children.
My father Michael P. DeMaria, operated a successful construction business in Stroudsburg for several decades and was also a real estate investor. From a young age, I learned the value of hard work by helping him with his trade. Today, I continue that legacy as a local business and real estate owner, specializing in home improvements and rental properties.
For over 20 years, my primary career has been in public service/law enforcement. I began this journey in the 1990s as a Pennsylvania State Constable in Stroudsburg’s 5th ward. At the time, there were not a lot of Constables and they were required to self-educate. Reading law books, speaking to Deputy Sheriffs, spending time in courtrooms and law offices was the only way to gain knowledge, which I did. I introduced myself to Stroudsburg Magisterial District Judge Anthony Mangan. I gained his trust and began to serve Stroudsburg Borough through his court, serving warrants, collecting fines and serving civil papers. I also served legal papers for Stroudsburg attorneys, including the law firm of Muth, Zulick, and Worthington. In 1993 I attended the Municipal Police Officers Training Academy at The Lackawanna Junior College in Scranton, Pa. At graduation in the fall of 1994, I received three out of the four class honors, including the Highest Academic Achievement Award.
Shortly after, I began my career as a local police officer. Throughout my time in this profession, I gained extensive experience in the application of law, conducting investigations, mediating disputes, making lawful arrests and engaging in community policing. I became proficient in drafting criminal complaints, affidavits, arrest warrants, and search warrants. I appeared in a professional capacity in district courts throughout Monroe County.
With countless hours of courtroom experience, I have developed a deep respect for the legal process and the rights of all parties involved. I’ve witnessed for two decades, the honorable judges in our community carry out their duties in a lawful, fair and nonpartisan manner.
Serving as your Magisterial District Judge would be a natural progression of my experience and knowledge. I am committed to ensuring a seamless transition while maintaining the integrity, fairness, and efficiency of this court.
I ask for your support in this endeavor. Together, we can ensure that justice is served with respect, impartiality, and dedication to our community.
